We have one day to explore Dubai. We start in the early morning after we arrived with a night flight and had some problems at customs because of our drone. Exploring Dubai is not so easy, we know this from our previous trip (2015)
We take our chances with the metro and buy a day pass. Unfortunately it is not possible to sit at either end of the train (one end is only accessible for women and children, the other end is gold class).
After our first stop we decide to buy a more expensive ticket so we can sit in the ‘Gold Class’. At one end of the train 🙂 Now we can take pictures and enjoy the surreal view. That first stop by the way was at the Dubai Frame. It is within reasonable walking distance from the metro, but expensive to enter.
The park surrounding the Frame is also ticketed. When preparing this trip, we found out there is some street art in Dubai. We thought about walking to the one street where we were supposed to find it, but walking the Dubai streets is challenging (traffic and distances)… We don’t get to the street art street. Also on our to do-list: the Green Planet by Meraas.
This is an interesting building, with a garden inside and situated in a new and very quit residential area. Unfortunately the metro stop is very far away from the building itself. Easier to reach is Jumeirah Beach: with the metro and a connecting tram (take the right direction …).
Our last stop of the day is the sunset at the Burj Khalifa there we waited till the lights of the tower lighten before going back to the hotel to prepare ourselves for the big trip to Australia.
Hotel we stayed in: Aloft City Centre Deira – this hotel has a good location between the airport and the city, and is connected to a shopping center (with department stores, metro station, …)
A few tips for Dubai:
- download the google maps of Dubai for offline use
- buy a day pass for the metro (gold class – for the best views)
more pictures coming…
